Thursday 18th January, 2024 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm at Rainhill Library, View Road, Rainhill.

Come and join in a special Rainhill Remembered Event when you will be trans ported back in time with our old photographs. Drop in for a cup of tea and a chat while seeing what you can identify in the photographs. Rainhill Civic Society’s publications will be on sale at this event.

Tuesday 20th February, 2024 at 7.30 pm at Rainhill Ex-Services Club, 561a Warrington Road, Rainhill.

Ken Pye will give an illustrated talk on ‘Curious and Amazing tales of St Helens and Knowsley’.

We will hear wonderful and entertaining stories from two very different boroughs of Merseyside including a Leprechaun hunt in Kirkby in the 60,s; where the Owl and Pussycat nonsense rhyme was written; the cannibals of Crank Caverns; the Huyton Internment Camp and much, much more.

Please come along with your friends – a charge of £3.00 will be made at the door.

Grahame Birtles will give an illustrated talk on ‘The History of E W Pugin’s Gorton Monastery, a Victorian Manchester Masterpiece‘.

Grahame’s illustrated talk offers a fascinating insight into the life and work of the friars who created this much loved place of worship and important example of Manchester architecture. Learn about the rise, decline and fall of the Monastery and its magnificent restoration.
