Rainhill Heritage & History
From a small rural village to the centre of the world-renowned Rainhill Locomotive Trials of 1829, Rainhill has an amazing history. With the advent of the railways the village and population grew and a housing expansion began to accommodate wealthy business people who were now able to commute from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool to more rural environs. Many of these mansions, a testament to the wealth of their owners, still survive and today we have over 20 Listed buildings and monuments around the village.
